Date:5/14/2007

The 2006 Dr David Adams Award for Achievement has been won by Mrs Amanda Cartney, Head Receptionist at the Kelty Medical Practice.   The award is presented annually to a member of General Practice staff who has made a significant contribution to patient care or the smooth running of a practice.

Nominating her, the practice wrote, “Amanda is central to the running of the practice.  She has the office running efficiently and smoothly whilst ensuring staff are industrious, whilst a relaxed atmosphere prevails.  She has an extremely calm, understated style that results in her being a wonderful communicator and having the respect of those around her.

Presenting the award, Dr David Alexander, Chairman of the award panel and the Local Medical Committee, said “Amanda provides an excellent example of the huge contribution that members of reception staff make to a practice and to patient care”. Amanda provides a warm, friendly and helpful first contact to those coming to the health centre.  Several years ago she learned how to take blood from patients and now runs a weekly clinic which frees up doctor and nurse time.  She recently learned to take blood pressures”.

The award was created to acknowledge the contribution to Primary Care in Fife by David Adams, who died suddenly in November 2001, and was made possible by funds raised by general practitioners, friends and family.

Amanda is still undecided about how the money will be spent.
